Another big hit last month was George 6 Dark Colour Cylinder blocks, and not surprising really at the bargain levels we offered them. This month we are moving forward to the light colours. A little general knowledge point to add here: the reason for the light colours replacing the dark was a wartime ink saving measure. This is another George 6th offer, which is limited to the first 40 customers. In May of 1951, the Festival of Britain dominated the front pages. Two sets of stamps were issued for the occasion, one a set of low value commemoratives and the other, a set of high values including a £1 value, that catalogues £48 on its own. This offer provides the chance to snap up an unmounted copy of the £1 value for well under half catalogue with the commemorative set thrown in for good measure. We bought a sheet in an 'old time' lot, and thought rather than try and find 40 copies of the other three stamps, we'd give you the benefit of our good fortune. ITEM 5
In 1977, the second class postage rate was 7pence! The Post Office had started to issue books of 10 of second class stamps as an experiment the year before, and their popularity prompted a series of different covers for the 7p denomination. Six of these were based on Traditional country Crafts; the other two designs you can also see form the illustrations. A feature of these booklets was that the stamps were affixed from different sides. This offer comprises an example of each of the eight different covers. The first class rate when the second was 7 pence (see item 5 above) was a mammoth 9 pence. There was a corresponding series of 8 different booklets, and six of these featured British Canals. ITEM 7
Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man have all been very active in the 'Europa' programme over the past thirty years. This a theme that a number of European countries subscribe to, and which forms an annual series. The stamps are issued in very collectable sheetlets, usually but not always being sets of 10, and contain the Europa logo. Many of the printed albums have spaces for the sheetlets, and they have become highly collectable. We thought it about time that we introduced these into our selections. At the moment we are still building up stocks, but we have enough to offer a starter selection of two different sheetlets from Jersey, or Guernsey or the Isle of Man to acquaint you with this aspect of collecting. We're jumping to 1985 or 1986 for this month's GB commemorative offers. All the sets are of course in unmounted mint condition. The 1985 yearset includes the superb Famous Trains set and the stamps issued to commemorate British Film year.
