Summer is here and I am sure many of you are looking forward to lazy days in the garden or better still listening to the sound of ball on willow at a cricket match. Thinking of cricket, we had a recent signing event where two cricketing legends, Sir Gary Sobers and Sir Richard Hadlee joined us for a very pleasant afternoon. Sir Gary Sobers was a stalwart of the West Indies batting for many years and is still remembered for being the first player to hit 6 sixes in one over in a competitive match. Sir Richard Hadlee the noted New Zealand bowler was the first bowler to reach 400 Test Match wickets amongst his many achievements. Item 1 We produced this cover in 2004 as a tribute to Sir Gary Sobers, it coincided with the England versus West Indies Test Match at Lord's Cricket Ground in London and bears a special one day only postmark incorporating the MCC logo. Item 7 Ian Botham signed cover produced for the 1999 Cricket World Cup. Possibly the most well known Cricketing name of his generation, Ian Botham OBE is a former England Captain and still holds the record for the highest number of wickets taken by an English test bowler. ‘Beefy’ is arguably the English Cricketer who remains most popular particularly for his displays against the oldest cricketing foe, the Australians. Item 8 Sir Richard Hadlee signed cover. We have produced two different covers, which feature personalised stamps with the labels showing Sir Richard produced on our behalf by Royal Mail. The postmark is 28th June 2008 and is for the England versus New Zealand match at Lord’s Cricket Ground and has the MCC logo in the centre of its design.
